Thermodynamics of combined-cycle electric power plants

چکیده

Published data imply an average thermal efficiency of about 0.34 for U.S. electricity generating plants. With clever use of thermodynamics and technology, modern gas and steam turbines can be coupled, to effect dramatic efficiency increases. These combined-cycle power plants now reach thermal efficiencies in excess of 0.60. It is shown how the laws of thermodynamics make this possible. VC 2012 American Association of Physics Teachers. Thermo-economic Analysis of Power Cycles

Exergy analysis is based on combined first and second laws of thermodynamics and is a useful tool to analyze the energy systems in a better and more realistic way than an energy analysis, based on the first law of thermodynamics. Combination of exergy from thermodynamics with conventional concepts from engineering economy which is referred to as thermo-economy (exergo-economy) is a valuable too...

Cost and Environmental Pollution Reduction Based on Scheduling of Power Plants and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles

There has been a global effort to reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions. In an electric resource scheduling, emission dispatch and load economic dispatch problems should be considered. Using renewable energy resources (RESs), especially wind and solar, can be effective in cutting back emissions associated with power system. Further, the application of electric vehicles (EV) capable of b...

Theoretical analysis of a novel combined cooling, heating, and power (CCHP) cycle

This study presents a theoretical analysis of a new combined cooling, heating, and power cycle by the novel integration of an organic Rankine cycle (ORC), an ejector refrigeration cycle (ERC), and a heat pump cycle (HPC) for producing cooling output, heating output, and power output simultaneously. Three different working fluids—namely R113, isobutane, and R141b—have been used in power, ref...

Green Productivity in Iran's Thermal Power Plants: The Malmquist-Luenberger Approach

Electricity generation in thermal power plants as the largest producer of electricity in Iran is associated with greenhouse gas emissions. In this paper, using the Malmquist-Luenberger method, green productivity, and efficiency changes are measured for 31 thermal power plants (including 12 steam power plants, 13 gas power plants, and six combined cycle power plants) during 2009-2016. The result...
